Derek McCullough comes out on top in an unforgettable finish at Delaware

The Ontario Sportsman Series delivered exactly what was promised Friday night at Delaware Speedway, side by side racing from the drop of the green flag to the final checkered flag. The Gulf Race Fuels 100 presented by Foxy’s Speed Shop featured intense battles throughout the field, dramatic moments, and an unforgettable finish that had fans on the edge of their seats.
The race opened with an incredible fight for the lead between Derek “The Pitbull” McCullough in the No. 38 and veteran Mike Hryniuk in the No. 15, making what was announced as his final race behind the wheel. The pair traded the top spot with clean, hard racing, showcasing exactly what OSS competition is all about.
Hryniuk eventually found his way around McCullough and looked poised to end his racing career with a storybook victory. Unfortunately, after a restart, McCullough reclaimed the lead before disaster struck for Hryniuk. A spin in turn 2 sent the No. 15 hard into the backstretch barrier, ending his night prematurely. Thankfully, Mike was okay after the incident, but his race was over. Despite the heartbreaking finish, he put on an incredible performance in his final event and reminded everyone why he’s been such a respected competitor throughout his career.
Behind the leaders, Cooper Aubertin drove a tremendous race in the No. 25, keeping the front runners honest while holding onto third for much of the evening. Shawn Mcglynn in the No. 9 and Todd Sheppard in the No. 47 remained within striking distance, making every restart and every lap a battle.
As cautions mounted and the laps wound down, the race came to an exciting Green-White-Checkered finish. Derek McCullough never wavered under the pressure, driving the No. 38 to a hard-earned victory. Shawn McGlynn charged forward in the closing laps to secure second place, while Ontario Sportsman Series rookie Donavin Clark completed an impressive late-race resurgence in the No. 52 to finish third. Kevin Trevellin No. 19 quietly worked his way back through the field to claim fourth, while Cooper Aubertin’s determined drive earned him a well-deserved fifth-place finish after spending much of the race battling near the front.
We would like to extend a huge thank you to our title sponsors, Gulf Fuels Canada and InstantBond for making this event possible. It was great having Jeff LaRose throw the green flag and seeing Nathaniel Greenaway again. Thank you to everyone from InstantBond for their support of Donavin Clark’s No. 52 promotional car throughout the weekend and
A special thank you also goes out to the outstanding staff at Delaware Speedway for another professionally run event and, of course, to our incredible fans. We now turn our attention to Full Throttle Motor Speedway in two weeks. We can’t wait to see what comes next!
