Rain was on everyone’s mind as the Ontario Sportsman Series rolled into Flamboro Speedway-Authorized Page — one of the most anticipated stops on the calendar for our Rec & Ride 100. With showers in the forecast, there was real doubt whether the race would even go green. But the weather held off just long enough, and teams and fans were treated to a full night of racing at the tight and fast 1/3-mile oval.
When the checkered flag flew, it was Connor James #33 out front once again. The win not only earned him another trophy — it also tied him with Steve Robblee for the most career victories in OSS history. James’s performance was strong all night, holding off a determined Shawn McGlynn #9, who crossed the line second. Sean Mangin #47 put together a steady run to claim third and continue building momentum late in the season.
Just outside the podium, Derek McCullough #38 brought home a solid fourth-place finish, followed closely by Brad Robinson #44 in fifth. The night wasn’t without incident — Cooper Aubertin #25 spun into the wall in turn two on lap 37 and Brendan Patrick #02 and Kevin Trevellin #19 were involved in a front stretch crash 38 that brought out a caution, all drivers were okay despite the scares, the field regrouped and pressed on to the finish in front of a decent Flamboro crowd.
A noble highlight on Saturday was the admirable efforts of Kaden Patrick #86, Chad McGlynn’s #8 night was cut short by engine problems, threatening to hurt his standing in the championship battle. But in a great show of teamwork, the #86 of Kaden Patrick stepped in to run and help Chad collect valuable points by subbing in for the #8 car. It was a reminder of how even competitors can work as a team!
We want to one again thank London Recreational Racing and One Stop Auto Centre for helping to put on a great show as well as all the staff at Flamboro Speedway for ensuring our night ran as smooth as possible.
We’re off to our last race at the Varneyceum, which Gladiator will guide their chariot to victory?! Find out next time!
