McAllister & the McGlynns put on a show at Delaware

Posted on: May 23rd, 2024

The 2024 Ontario Sportsman Series Presented by Gulf Race Fuels season officially got underway on Friday, May 17, 2024, at the legendary Delaware Speedway, for the Derek’s Mowers N’ Blowers 100! It was an amazing start to the season for OSS’s most decorated champion, Shawn McGlynn, who won the EcoTek Pole Award, setting a new track record in the process! It was a battle of the champions with Cory McAllister starting second, and Chad McGlynn starting third. A very impressive qualifying was put in by Michael Hryniuk Jr. starting fourth, while Delaware’s very own Brendan Patrick would start in fifth.

Trouble would be found early in the 100-lap event, as unfortunately after a rapid start, which saw Ollie Ferguson blast by Kevin Gallant on the high side to grab two spots in one lap, the sophomore driver would have a mechanical gremlin, ending his night after ten laps. Brad Robinson joined Ferguson in the pits two laps later, also out with mechanical trouble. A great qualifying run for Hryniuk Jr. was undone after a ten-cent parts failure spoiled his good run, and he came down for repairs.

A battle waged on up front between Shawn McGlynn and Cory McAllister, with Chad McGlynn, Derek McCullough, Brendan Patrick, and Kevin Trevellin all contending in the top five. There were some audible gasps when the #2 of Tim Borne flew around the slow car of Nathaniel Greenaway only to lose control in turn one, nearly running right into McGlynn & McAllister! On Lap 43, Borne made another reoccurrence in turn one, speeding by to avoid Mark Patrick who had a suspension failure! Borne got into the dirty line into one, and contacted the inside wall, ending his night and damaging the #2 Camaro.

Shawn McGlynn’s strong run soured and he fell back, unable to keep pace with McAllister late in the race, while Derek McCullough soared to the front! The #38 CPE Services Ltd. Challenger made his way up to second, trading paint with Kevin Trevellin & Chad McGlynn, but was unable to get past McAllister for the first race of the season! Cory McAllister backed up his 2023 Championship by winning the Derek’s Mowers N’ Blowers 100, his second straight win at Delaware Speedway! Kaden Patrick had a great race, as the Delaware native had a ninth-place finish, while rookies Nathaniel Greenaway and Lora Authier held on for a 10th & 11th place finish respectively.

The Ontario Sportsman Series Presented by Gulf Race Fuels is back racing at Full Throttle Motor Speedway on June 1st! West Grey Auto Parts & Farlow’s Home Hardware will present the 100-lap event, named the Grey County 100!
